Removable Partial Denture: Equipoise Clasp
Equipoise Clasp was designed by Roach in 1930. Roach concepts on Equipoise were later modified by European and North American dentists giving us similar clasps concepts with other names.
The Equipoise, is designed for use on the palatal / lingual surface of the abutment. In Equipoise concept, the dentist must place an element of support, and contention and retention for the distal buccal surfaceof the aboutment.
Equipoise removable partial denture is esthetically pleasing because there is no arm to buccal.
Another clasp known as X clasp is sometimes referred as Equipoise clasp. These 2 clasps are not the same. X clasp needs an intra-crown system and the occlusal rest is thicker.
Equipoise are designated on canine and premolars, in clinical cases of Kennedy Class I and II.
