Lower Removable Partial Denture Linguoplate
Linguoplate is a type of major connector for Removable Partial Denture. Major connector is the component of partial denture that connects the parts of the denture located on one side of the arch with those on the opposite side. It is the unit of the denture to which all other parts are directly or indirectly attached. Linguoplate, also know as lingual plate, results if the rectangular space bounded by the lingual bar, the anterior tooth contacts ang cingula, and the bordering minor connectors is filled in.
Lingual Plate is made as thin as possible. It is contoured to follow the contours of the teeth and the embrasures. The upper border follows the natural the natural curvature of the supracingular surfaces of teeth. The upper borders are not located above the middle third of the lingual surface except to cover the interproximal spaces to contact points. Half pear shape of a lingual bar forms the inferior border of linguoplate.
Indications for the Use of Linguoplate in Removable Partial Dentures
- When the lingual frenum is high or the space available for the lingual bar is limited.
- In Kennedy Class I situations in which the residual ridges have undrgone excessive vertical resorption.
- For stabilizing periodontally weakened teeth.
- When the future replacement of one or more incisor teeth will be facilitated by the addition of retetntion loops to an existing linguoplate.
